Features:

  • Stage 2:

We’ve made improvements across-the-board including improved matchmaking, enhancements to all characters, visual improvements to maps, optimized performance, and improved player experiences. It’s a free game, but it’s also a much better game.
  • 4v1:

Grab three friends and hunt a monster or stalk lowly humans as an ever-evolving beast. Whichever side you choose, you have access to powerful weapons and abilities that deliver balanced, competitive gameplay.
  • Hunt Together or Die Alone:

Choose a hunter that fits your play style. Whether you play as the Trapper, Support, Assault, or Medic, every role is vital and teamwork is key in surviving an encounter with the monster.
  • Beast of Prey:

As the monster – the lone predator – you are the boss battle. Use savage abilities and an animalistic sense to wreak havoc, kill the humans, and prove you are the dominant species.
  • Savage Planet:

Neither flora nor fauna are friendly on planet Shear. Fall victim to natural hazards or use them strategically against your prey.
  • Character Customization:

Level up to unlock new upgrades, skins and perks for your favorite class: hunter or monster. Earn your infamy on the leaderboards and become the apex predator

In this game there are four hunters that fight against a monster. In the main game mode, which is called "hunt" the purpose of the hunters is to prevent the monster from destroying a "relay" in a specified amount of time; the monster wins if it manages to have all players incapacitated at the same time, or if it destroys this "relay" after it evolves to stage 3. The monster, is controlled by a human player in a 3rd person perspective, starts at stage 1 and it needs to eat wildlife to evolve. With each stage the monster is more powerful and you get to improve some of its potential abilities. The 4 hunters, which have a 1st person perspective, are from 4 distinctive classes: "assault" is a tank and damage dealer, "medic" is a healer, "support" helps in different ways, and "trapper" is specialized in tracking the monster. When in rage, the hunters can "dome" the monster to force a fight; the "dome" is like a huge temporary cage.

I love the concept and the adrenaline of playing monster. They made the game more dynamic with a lot more action but sneaking also has a role. The diversity in characters, including monsters, is decent. The number of maps is really small and contributes to making the game seem repetitive after a while. Also it kind of lacks an end goal for the player, except maybe getting all characters. If you stumble on a founders key (these are no longer sold by the developers), then you'll get a ton of characters and a lot of other rewards. The game had a huge problem with cheaters but they are still present to some degree and it's very difficult to report them.

Before starting a game, you need to choose some perks for you character. There are three tiers of perks and you can pick one from each tier. Also each perk has three levels which makes them better. This is great because it enhances the diversity of the characters even more. But I think it's a very bad thing that perks are unlockable (by leveling a character or buying them with "silver keys" which are credits that can only be earned in game and not bought with real money) because some people can get in a game with better perks than some other people that don't have them. But at least perks are not purchasable with "gold keys" (that can be bought with real money).

Rating: Here comes the tickle monster!

Recommendation: Very interesting "free to play" game, well worth a (free) shot.
