Genre: Strategy / "stealth-oriented real-time tactics";

Release date: 06-Dec-2016 ;

Overview:

Shadow Tactics is a hardcore tactical stealth game set in Japan around the Edo period. A new Shogun seizes power over Japan and enforces nationwide peace. In his battle against conspiracy and rebellion, he recruits five specialists with extraordinary skills for assassination, sabotage and espionage.

Features:

  • Play as five completely different characters with their unique skill set
  • Conquer seemingly impossible challenges where you are outnumbered ten to one
  • Find dozens of ways to take out your opponents the way you want
  • Jump from roof to roof and climb large buildings to attack the enemy from above
  • Explore beautiful environments of ancient Japan in the Edo era
  • Choose from three difficulty levels to match your skill

   Shadow Tactics is bringing back to life the old style of stealth tactics that we saw in the “Commandos” series. This game comes with great graphics, many quality of life improvements, and as a setting, instead of WW2, we have Japan in the early modern period. One of the improvements is that, at a basic level, you can synchronize actions between your characters. But if you’ve ever played a “Commandos” game, then you’ll feel right at home.

   Missions are like a string of mini-puzzles, where you have to figure out in which order, and how you’ll take the enemy soldiers out. Unfortunately, with time, it becomes a bit repetitive because you’ll use the same tricks (tactics) in many similar situations. Some deaths that look accidental are not investigated much or at all, and it’s my personal opinion that in such a game, stealth should be rewarded more.  I played it on the maximum difficulty setting, and I only had problems with the last mission. So if you want a challenge you’ll have to go for earning badges in each mission. But the criteria for awarding badges is only revealed at the end of the mission, this is quite annoying.

 Rating: Where did everyone go?! I'm sure this is fine...
