1.8.4

;

Genre: Online Airplanes Combat / Arcade / Free to Play;

Release date: 13-Nov-2013 ;

Overview:

World of Warplanes features over 100 vehicles from Germany, the Soviet Union, USA, Japan, Great Britain and China; allowing players to choose from four main warplane classes- Fighters, Multirole Fighters, Heavy Fighters and Ground Attack Planes.

Each national tech tree introduces squadrons of planes ranging from Tier I entry-level machines all the way up to Tier X advanced jet-powered aircraft. All warplanes can be unlocked and upgraded through a continued gameplay progression.

Aircraft of each class in the same tier vary in flight characteristics and firepower across nations. For example, a Soviet or a Japanese fighter of the same tier will be more horizontally maneuverable than its German and American counterpart but has limited vertical maneuverability.

Tech trees will expand as the game evolves. New nations and additional aircraft for each nation’s tech tree will be gradually introduced post-launch. [Wikipedia]

   Built on the same principles and engine as World of Tanks, this game fails to impress in any positive way. The game engine is called “Bigworld”, probably ironically, as the maps are way too small for a game with airplanes. Map variety is almost as limited as the map size. The hit points system is very uninspired because part of the beauty of dogfights is to feel how you take apart the enemy airplanes, and to see and feel how the damage affects the planes, but this experience is very limited in this game. The physics are very restrictive as in, you can't go too fast, you can't go too far, you can't go too high, and you can't do too much damage too fast.

UPDATE 2020-Oct: The game is a still a huge money grab and most “players” are bots.

 Recommendation: right now, WoWP is a very good commercial for WarThunder.
